The pursuit began when officers saw "a blue Chevy pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Lancaster Road in East Petersburg Borough" at 11:09 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, the NLCRPD stated in the release.

When the officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, 25-year-old Giovanni Lester "attempted to flee [but] lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to turn onto Root Road. The vehicle exited the roadway and became disabled in a ditch," the police said.

Now on foot, officers went into the ditch and arrested a "combative" Lester who was then taken to Lancaster General Hospital "for medical evaluation/treatment and evaluated for DUI," police explained.

But "during the medical evaluation, he fled the hospital, escaping custody," the police said.

Lester was later found by members of the NLCRPD in Penn Township around 5 a.m. on Friday, according to the release.

The police filed the following charges charges against him:  DUI, Flight to avoid apprehension, escape, resisting arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and various traffic violations. Court documents were unavailable at the time of publishing.

Anyone with information is asked to call NLCRPD at (717)733-0965 or Lancaster County Crime Stoppers at (800) 322-1913.
